If I Had a Hammer

FotoFest Biennial, Houston, TX

Liz Rodda’s series Heat Loss, as presented in If I Had a Hammer, builds on the artist’s longstanding engagement with bodily presence and the economies of image circulation across online platforms and mass-broadcast channels. Drawing from both public and private archives—including YouTube and Shutterstock—Rodda juxtaposes found video, photography, audio, and text with artist-made material produced in the studio. Through these collisions, the intended meanings of original content are layered with the vocabularies of the digital age, capitalist desire, and affect-driven marketing.— Max Fields, Director, Visual Arts Center
